Zombie-Boy
Morgan McCorkindale, a.k.a. Zombie Boy, the 11-year old kid whose family vacation to Voodoo Island changed his afterlife forever, has hit another milestone.
As of August 2013, the celebrated undead creation of artist Mark Stokes, has now officially entered his third year of, um, life online.
The popular comic book character is actually well into his third decade, now, having originally sprung from Stokes’ pen in the late 1980s.
“Zombie Boy, as a character, celebrated his 25th birthday year last year,” said Stokes. “His first appearance was in print in 1987, as a straight-up comic book, with subsequent issues throughout the next decade. I made the transition from a comic book into a webcomic in 2010, with the first strip posting on Aug. 2, 2010.”
The 2013 anniversary of the comic book, strip and the web-comic come at an auspicious time for Stokes, as all the published issues of Zombie Boy, along with the rest of Stokes’ published comic book work, entered The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide this year.
“This is a real thrill for me,” said Stokes. “It signals a level of recognition for the work, and a level of acceptance, that I’ve been waiting a long time for.”
Stokes said that his future plans for the popular web-comic are to release a collected volume of the strips, to create more animated strips – which have been enthusiastically received by fans and fellow-cartoonists – and to continue to focus on creating quality comics for the enjoyment of Zombie Boy’s fans.
“As long as Zombie Boy and his cohorts continue to sew mayhem, and as long as his fans continue to follow,” said Stokes, “I’ll be there to document it.”
