X-Men Animated Universes Showdown in X-Men ’92: Incursions
Two versions of the X-Men will duke it out in the one-shot X-Men ’92: Incursions #1. The comic will star the X-Men team from the 1990s animated series versus the teen mutant heroes from the 2000s animated show, X-Men: Evolution.
The X-Men from the ‘90s need to save their world, but the only way to do so is to condemn another universe. If the situation wasn’t bad enough, the world they would destroy is filled with younger versions of themselves. The one-shot is written by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle, the duo behind X-Men: Evolution episodes that included X-23’s debut. Artist Salva Espin joins them on the prelude comic for Marvel Animation’s X-Men ’97.
Other battles from Time Runs Out, the prelude to Secret Wars by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić, will begin in November 2026. They will unfold in five Incursions one-shots that pit two Marvel universes against each other with only one surviving. The books will feature alternate realities, classic eras, and in the case of X-Men ’92: Incursions #1, animated worlds.
“Chris and I wrote our very first script together on X-Men: Evolution,” Kyle said. “It was called ‘X-23,’ and it changed both of our lives. But we’re comic fans first. This is our first story together in 15 years, and returning to the Evo kids a quarter century later to tell the biggest story of their lives, in the pages of Marvel Comics, is a dream and an honor. We owe four generations of die-hard X-Men animation fans a story worth the wait. With Salva Espin drawing it, we’re going to stick the landing.”
“It’s been gratifying to see so much love for the X-Men: Evolution kids, that show was my first job in the industry and was a dream come true,” Yost said. “To be able to return to it after all these years – and to work with Craig again – has been an absolute blast.”
X-Men ’92: Incursions #1 features two main covers by Luciano Vecchio and variant covers by Gurihiru and Steve E. Gordon.
It will be in comic shops on January 6, 2027.
