
X-Men #1 CGC 9.2 Leads Comic Highlights in Hake’s Auction
Hake’s premier Auction #245 is now open for bids with 1,592 lots of pop culture and Americana memorabilia. The auction features rare and top tier campaign material, action figures, concert posters, comic and animation art, Disneyana, and much more. The comics section contains hundreds of books from the Golden Age to more modern offerings, featuring important first appearances and major keys.

Highlights begin with a high grade copy of one of Marvel’s most important books: X-Men #1 CGC 9.2. The book features the first appearances of multiple characters, including Professor X, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Beast, and Angel, and their biggest nemesis, Magneto. Through the X-Men, creators Jack Kirby and Stan Lee introduced the concept of mutation, opening the door for limitless character designs and power sets. Their original roster of seven characters has grown to include a multitude of mutants who star in ongoing titles, event series, and many offshoots. This auction provides collectors with a rare opportunity to purchase a high grade copy of the key book.
The Marvel hits keep coming with Amazing Spider-Man #1 CGC 6.5 with the first appearances of J. Jonah James and The Chameleon, the first Fantastic Four crossover, and the origin of Spider-Man retold. The book boasts a stacked creative team with a story by Stan Lee, cover by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, and interior art by Ditko.

Hake’s is offering Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 1.8 with the first appearance of Spider-Man, and the debuts of Aunt May and Uncle Ben, with a story by Stan Lee, cover by Jack Kirby, and art by Steve Ditko. More keys from the Wall Crawler’s catalog are another copy of Amazing Spider-Man #1 CGC 3.0 and #6 CGC 9.2 (debut of Lizard).

Silver Age keys continue in Fantastic Four #5 CGC 4.0 (first appearance of the team’s longtime nemesis, Dr. Doom), another copy of X-Men #1 CGC 5.5, Avengers #1 CGC Restored 4.0 (origin and debut of the Avengers), Daredevil #1 CGC 4.0 (first Daredevil), Journey Into Mystery #83 CGC 1.5 (Thor’s debut), Tales of Suspense #39 CGC 1.5 (Iron Man’s first appearance), and Tales to Astonish #27 CGC 2.5 (debut of Ant-Man).
Bronze Age books are led by Incredible Hulk #181 CGC 9.4 with the first full appearance of Wolverine and a cover by Herb Trimpe and John Romita. Star Wars #1 CGC 9.8 contains the first part of the Star Wars: A New Hope comic adaptation with a story by Roy Thomas and art by Howard Chaykin.

Two of the Modern keys are BRZRKR #1 CGC 9.8 Signature Series Keanu Reeves (Meyers “Virgin” variant cover) and TMNT: The Last Ronin #1 CGC 10 Signature Series Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz (Roiland variant cover B).
