Wonder Woman ‘70s TV Series Joins HBO Max
Before Wonder Woman 1984 drops on HBO Max, the original live-action Wonder Woman TV series from the 1970s has joined HBO Max. Viewers can now watch all three seasons of the Lynda Carter-led series.
In November 1975, Wonder Woman traveled from the comic book page to the TV screen for her very own television show. Starring Carter as Wonder Woman and Lyle Waggoner as Steve Trevor, the popular series featured a female character in a heroic way like never before. The series contained 60 episodes, airing through September 1979.
The show was set in 1942, when the world was embroiled in World War II. It starts when American pilot Major Steve Trevor must bail out of an air battle, landing on Paradise Island. There, he meets Diana and the Amazons, a group of strong, agile, intelligent women. Diana rescues him and once she has helped him recover, her mother, Queen Hippolyta, decides that a tournament will be held to choose which Amazon will take Steve back to America. When the queen forbids Diana from participating in the games, she wears a disguise to compete for the job. Once Diana wins, proving she is the best for the job, her mother relents and lets her escort Steve home. After that she embarked on many adventures saving the day against Nazis and other criminals as Wonder Woman, while working for Steve Trevor undercover as Diana Prince.
Since Gal Gadot’s introduction as Wonder Woman, Carter has been a vocal supporter of her role in the DC Extended Universe and its impact on fans. She was unable to make a cameo in the first film, making fans hopeful for an appearance in the sequel.
Wonder Woman 1984 sees Gadot’s return as Wonder Woman, along with director Patty Jenkins, and stars Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, and Robin Wright. Pedro Pascal has joined as Maxwell Lord and Kristen Wiig will play Barbara Minerva/Cheetah.
