
Wonder Woman #1 Leads Comics in Hake’s Auction
Hake’s Auction #244 is now open for bidding, with 1,562 lots of memorabilia from across many pop culture and historical categories. The comic section is loaded with keys from across the comic ages including first appearances and notable moments.
Leading the charge is Wonder Woman #1 CGC 3.0, one of the most important keys featuring Diana of Themyscira. It is the first issue of Wonder Woman’s solo title, retells her origin story, and provides the first appearance of Ares.
A pair of major Marvel team first appearances are in the auction. Fantastic Four #1 CGC 4.5 contains the first appearance and origin of the team, and the debut and origin of Mole Man. Avengers #1 CGC 6.5 Restored Slight (C-1) presents the origin and debut of the Avengers team (Iron Man, Thor, Incredible Hulk, Wasp, and Ant-Man), plus appearances by the Fantastic Four, Loki, and the Teen Brigade.
Peter Parker is well represented in the auction, starting with Amazing Spider-Man #1 CGC 4.5. The key issue is Spidey’s second appearance, the beginning of his own title, the debuts of J. Jonah Jameson and the Chameleon, and it has a Fantastic Four crossover. Issue 3 CGC 4.0 features the origin and first appearance of Doctor Octopus and has an appearance by the Human Torch. Issue 14 CGC 8.0 has the first appearance of the Green Goblin, the first meeting between Spider-Man and the Hulk, and an appearance by the Enforcers. Issue #129 CGC 9.4 has the first appearance of the Punisher and the Jackal.
The Marvel and DC highlights continues with Marvel Spotlight #5 CGC 8.5 (origin and first appearance of Ghost Rider/Johnny Blaze), Avengers #2 CGC 9.2 (Space Phantom’s debut, Hulk leaves the team), Batman #121 CGC 3.5 (first appearance of Mr. Freeze, who was originally called Mr. Zero), Superman #14 CGC 3.0 (classic shield cover, ad for Sensation Comics #1), and Green Lantern Vol. 2 #7 CGC 6.5 (Sinestro’s origin and first appearance, and the debut of Terga).
Hake’s is also offering House of Secrets #92 CGC 5.0 JSA Authentic Autograph Bernie Wrightson (first appearance of Swamp Thing), Avengers #4 CGC 5.5 (Captain America’s Silver Age debut), Fantastic Four #48 CGC 6.0 (debut of Silver Surfer and Galactus) and #52 CGC 7.0 (first Black Panther), X-Men #4 CGC 3.5 (first Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Toad, and Brotherhood of Evil Mutants), and Detective Comics #359 CGC 6.0 (Batgirl’s debut).
