Winona Ryder to Appear in Wednesday Season Three
A reunion is set to take place at Nevermore Academy. Winona Ryder will join Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton for a guest starring role in Wednesday season three. The details on her role in the show have not been announced.
“I am so happy that Winona has joined us, she fits right into this world. And she’s a dear friend. I always feel lucky to work with her,” Wednesday executive producer and director Burton said in a statement.
Ryder and Burton have worked together multiple times over the years, going back to 1988 when Ryder starred in Burton’s Beetlejuice. They collaborated again on Edward Scissorhands, the animated Frankenweenie, and the pair worked together most recently in 2024’s Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.

Their most recent film also featured Ortega. The long awaited sequel to Beetlejuice starred a grownup Lydia Deetz (Ryder) who returns to her haunted childhood home with her daughter (Ortega) and stepmother where they encounter Beetlejuice once again.
Ryder’s appearance in the show is also a reunion with Wednesday creators and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar, who wrote the script for Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice. Additionally, it marks Ryder’s return to Netflix following the conclusion of Stranger Things, which wrapped its five-season run on December 31, 2025.
“When it comes to outcasts, Winona Ryder is the goat,” Gough and Millar said. “Her legendary partnership with Tim Burton has defined some of cinema’s most unforgettable characters. We loved collaborating with her on Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice and couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome her to Nevermore.”

In its first two seasons, Wednesday featured a list of notable guest and recurring stars like Christina Ricci, Fred Armisen, Christopher Lloyd, Heather Matarazzo, Steve Buscemi, and Gwendoline Christie, among others. It was previously announced that Eva Green will also appear in season three as Morticia Addams’ sister Ophelia.
Wednesday season three does not have a release date yet, but is expected to return to Netflix sometime in 2027.
