Weird Tales Graphic Novel on Kickstarter
A Weird Tales graphic novel featuring adaptations of classic stories, new material, and new covers is now seeking backers on Kickstarter. Monstrous, the indie publisher of horror, science fiction, and fantasy, has teamed up with Weird Tales Magazine for the title’s first ever graphic novel, Weird Tales – A Graphic Novel of Bizarre & Unusual Stories.
Weird Tales was a fantasy and horror pulp magazine created by J.C. Henneberger and J.M. Lansinger that debuted its first issue in March 1923. The original publication ran into the mid-1950s, featuring stories by genre greats like H.P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Robert Bloch, Ray Bradbury, and Seabury Quinn. It is widely considered as quintessential reading for genre and pulp fans.

The graphic novel clocks in at 150 pages, featuring ten stories in large format printing at 8-1/2” x 11”. This is a limited edition publication that will only be printed for this campaign. The Kickstarter exclusive hardcover comes with covers by Kelley Jones (Dracula), Eric Powell (The Goon), and Colton Worley (The Shadow). Jones’ cover is limited to 1,000 copies.
Stories in the book include C.L. Moore’s “Shambleau” adapted by Blake Northcott and artist George Quadros, Howard’s “Skulls in the Stars” adapted by Steve Niles and artist Andrey Lunatik, and Michael Avallone’s “The Man Who Walked on Air” adapted by his son, David Avallone, and Robert Hack.
Bradbury’s “The Scythe” adapted by Weird Tales editor Jonathan Maberry and artist J.K. Woodward, Allison V. Harding’s “The Damp Man” adapted by Nancy A. Collins and artist Marco Finnegan, and an original Lovecraft mythos story by screenwriter and producer Rodney Barnes and artist Lukas Ketner are in the book.

More stories are Anthony M. Rud’s “Ooze” – the first story published in Weird Tales – reimagined by Weird Tales president, director, and producer John Harlacher and artist Zac Atkinson, “Doctor Satan vs. Jules de Grandin” by James Aquilone and artist Dave Swartz, and “The Cthulhu Project by Richard Krepit and artist E.V. Cantada.
Pledge levels start at $10 for a digital copy of the book, $49 for the Powell or Worley cover, and $75 for the limited edition Jones cover. A copy signed by Worley is $79, a copy of both the Powell or Worley covers is $93, a bundle of all three covers is $168, and there are fan bundles containing a t-shirt and collectors coin for $99 or $130.
The campaign has resonated with readers who have already funded the project, and then some. The goal was to raise $1,923, but at press time the campaign was already up to $64,283. The project is open for backing until March 18, 2026.
