Walking Dead/Fear Crossover Character Revealed
During New York Comic Con in October, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman announced that there would be a crossover between The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. After weeks of fan speculation, it’s been announced that Morgan Jones (played by Lennie James) will appear on Fear.
The news was revealed during Talking Dead on Sunday, November 26, 2017. Morgan will appear on Fear during the fourth season in 2018. Since Fear is set earlier than the original show, James could conceivably star on each series.
The character has had a unique tenure on The Walking Dead having starred in the series opener, then he was largely absent for years, appeared in one episode during the third season, then joined the cast at the end of the fifth season. Fear will likely provide flashbacks for what the character endured during the period when he was absent from The Walking Dead.
This could be key for understanding the character. When Morgan was introduced, his son was still alive and they were squatting in Rick’s old neighborhood. Morgan’s season three episode included the revelation that his son was dead, which likely led to a fracturing of Morgan’s sanity. After joining the show in season five, a flashback episode filled in some blanks about how Morgan attained his peaceful state of mind. But there’s still plenty of gaps in Morgan’s post-apocalypse history.
“Even though Morgan is going to be featured on Fear, he has a lot of story left on The Walking Dead,” showrunner Scott M. Gimple said in a statement. “Morgan’s arc on The Walking Dead season eight positioned him for the story on Fear. It was also important to see Fear’s world and characters through new yet familiar eyes.”
Fear wrapped the third season on October 15 while The Walking Dead is in the middle of the eighth season with two more episodes in 2017 before the winter break.
