When one thinks of vampires, a certain image usually comes to mind – pale skin, fangs, capes and the like. When Vampirella was introduced in 1969, Forrest J. Ackerman’s creation turned that image on its head. An alien princess from the planet Draculon, Vampirella immediately drew attention with her eye-catching look and her barely-there costume.

The dangerous Vampi is appearing in Hake’s premier Auction #234 in three distinct ways. First, up, Hake’s is selling Vampirella large specialty original art by Enric. The oversized 39-1/2” x 59” oil painting on canvas was rendered by Enrique Torres-Prat, aka Enric, who provided cover art for Vampirella issues from the late 1960s to modern day. On the piece, Vampi crouches in a foggy cave, pointing at the viewer as bats flutter beneath her. The art is signed by Enric at the lower right.

Turning to comics, Hake’s has Vampirella’s first appearance and origin in Vampirella #1 CGC 7.5. Featuring a frontispiece by Frank Frazetta, this issue has a story by Ackerman, and interior art by Reed Crandall, Neal Adams, and Billy Graham.

Another interesting piece for the princess from Draculon is the Aurora Monster Scenes Vampirella model kit, still factory sealed in the box. The 1971 model kit is unused and housed in a 4” x 4” x 6-1/2” cardboard illustrated box featuring images of Vampi and the Monster Scenes.

Hake’s Auction #234 is open for bids at hakes.com now through March 15-16, 2022. Within the 1,986-lot auction, collectors will find even more comics, original art, model kits, toys, and much more.
