Valiant First Look at Faith
Valiant’s new miniseries Faith has been getting the spotlight treatment across the pop culture spectrum. Buzz has been building by People Magazine, The Washington Post, MTV, Seventeen Magazine, Mashable, and Mic for the breakout Harbinger star, now in her own book.
The first issue was written by Jody Houser (Orphan Black) with art by Francis Portela (Green Lantern) and Marguerite Sauvage (DC Comics Bombshells). The spirited superheroine will make her debut in Faith #1 (of four) on January 27, 2016.
Part of what has both comics fans and non-readers buzzing is that Faith doesn’t have the typical body-type of a comic book character. Superheroes are dominated by muscles and tiny waists, making Faith standout for looking curvaceous and full-figured.
“I’ve been hearing from women who are in their 20s and 30s and 40s who have been reading comics for decades who have never seen a woman on the cover of a comic that looks like them,” series writer Jody Houser told People. “And I think [Faith] makes people feel like they’re welcome in comics, and that this medium is for them, when, maybe they’ve always loved comics but they haven’t felt welcome before is a huge thing.”
Faith Herbert is a psionically gifted young woman who was discovered by the Harbinger Foundation. But now the teenager is taking control of her life to become the superheroine she always knew she was. She even developed a mild-mannered secret identity with a day job as a reporter. So when she’s not working for the news she’s patrolling Los Angeles as the soaring heroine, Zephyr.
While flying solo taking on the average burglary she uncovers an alien conspiracy. She may be ready to take on the common criminals, but can she stop an alien invasion?
Faith #1 comes with covers by Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic (Divinity), Marguerite Sauvage (Thor), Clayton Henry (Archer & Armstrong), Kano (Quantum and Woody), and Colleen Coover (Bandette).
