UPDATE: Marshall Dillon’s 60-mile Cancer Walk
Over the last couple weeks, we have been pleased to tell you about comic book letterer Marshall Dillon’s participation in this year’s Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure cancer walk.
His work has been seen in Captain Action, Shi, and the upcoming Vampire, PA, among many different projects from publishers such as BOOM! Studios, Dark Horse, Gemstone Publishing, and Moonstone Books, among others.
The 60-mile walk/run/crawl course over three days generats proceeds to be invested in cancer research and community programs. Dillon’s goal is to raise at least $2,300 in donations. To achieve that, he’ll have to walk the full distance in three days.
He is presently in training for the event.
“Since starting the donations, the work out routine, and the walking, I have walked 41 miles in two weeks,” Dillon said. “Not bad for a desk-jockey!”
Included in that was 7.5 miles that he walked on Saturday, three miles of which was his regular routine.
“The remaining 4.5 miles were walked in a local shillalah fun run/walk with my fianceé Joyce and friends, Biff and Crystal. We got hit pretty hard by rain that day, but at least there wasn’t any wind,” he said.
“I’m working hard to have the stamina to complete the 60 mile mission, but I have a long way to go, too. Soon I will have to start running. That’ll really help increase my lung capacity and leg strength. Wish me luck on that!” he said.
“I’m sure you all know someone who has suffered from cancer and other serious illnesses. Please take a moment today to remind someone about the risky behaviors they are engaging in. Tell a friend who smokes, or drinks to excess, or who is obese, that you care about them and that you want them to be around for many, many more years. Most of these behaviors play on weakened emotions, so being supportive and nudging loved-ones towards a healthier life is essential in braking the habits that lead to illness. Step by step, day by day, we can change the world by changing our corner of it,” he said.
“Just follow the link below to visit my personal fundraising page and make a donation. You can also call (800) 996-3DAY to donate over the phone, or you can visit my Facebook wall and donate there,” he said.
Dillon’s mother has spent the last year battling cancer and is currently in remission.
