Unity is a team of superhero operatives who protect the world from dangerous threats. Prominent Valiant heroes like Eternal Warrior, Ninjak, Livewire, Bloodshot, X-O Manowar, and Zephyr have been members of the team that was created by Matt Kindt and introduced in Unity #1 (November 2013). They started out as an independent group, then began working for the Global Agency for Threat Excision (GATE) and report to the US and British governments.

Their story began when Aric of Dacia, aka X-O Manowar, escaped the Vine aliens and returned to Earth. He wanted to rule his old country of Dacia, what is now Romania, and planned to invade it at all costs. Harbinger Foundation CEO Toyo Harada decided to create his own team to combat X-O Manowar. Eternal Warrior went to speak to Aric, but he could not convince his old friend to stop the invasion. Ninjak tried take out X-O’s ship and a group of Psiots engaged him in battle, but both efforts were unsuccessful and Ninjak was captured.

Harada asked Livewire to join the new team, but when they attacked X-O in his space ship he sent it into space. Livewire infiltrated the ship’s operating system and severed its connection to Aric, sending the ship back to Earth. Then she put on the X-O Manowar armor, saved everyone on the ship and gave the armor to Harada. It was then that the team realized that Harada had his own plans to gain more power and dominion, so the team sought X-O Manowar’s help to defeat him.

Livewire joined MI-6, and she was kidnapped by Dr. Silk during her first mission. Ninjak, Eternal Warrior, and X-O Manowar joined forces to rescue Livewire and learned that Dr. Silk was using a virus to brainwash people. Together, Unity stopped him before his virus reached too far.

Bloodshot joined the team when the Armor Hunters went to Earth to destroy the X-O Manowar armor. After the Armor Hunters attacked Unity in Mexico City, Livewire found a way to incapacitate their ship that was orbiting in space. Tragically, the ship crashed in Los Angeles, destroying the downtown area.

It was then that the US and UK governments formed GATE, taking the alien technology that landed on Earth, and becoming the Unity’s supervisors. To quell fears of another attack, GATE announced the Unity team to the public and made Livewire the face of the team. Faith Herbert, aka Zephyr, briefly joined Unity, but she left after a terrible battle with a rival group called the United.

Unity tried to make a peaceful contact with Divinity, who had crashed from space into Australia and displayed god-like power. He sensed that they were hostile and trapped them in time loops until he realized that he couldn’t find the family he wanted. Once Unity was free, they took him into custody.
