Toys R Us Buys KB Toys Name
ICv2.com and other sources have reported that Toys R Us has acquired the brand and web addresses of bankrupt toy retailer KB Toys.
“KB Toys, which filed for bankruptcy in December, sold its logos and online addresses in a bankruptcy auction last month for $2.1 million to CE Stores, a unit of Toys "R" Us,” The Wall Street Journal said.
The company has not announced any plans for the brand, which as recently as 2004 had 1,200 stores. The purchase specifically does not include the 460 stores that remained when KB Toys filed for liquidation.
Earlier this year, Toys R Us acquired the brands of two other toy retailers, eToys.com and FAO Schwartz. The eToys is still operating, and the FAO Schwartz stores in New York and Las Vegas still carry the FAO name.
