Tom Hardy is officially out of the Suicide Squad film project. As previously announced in Scoop, he was set to play Rick Flag, the leader of the black-ops supervillain team. Suicide Squad is to be directed by David Ayer and Warner Bros. is now apparently considering Jake Gyllenhaal to replace Hardy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, his decision to drop out of the film was due to scheduling conflicts. Hardy is currently shooting The Revenant and is also starring in Max Mad: Fury Road, which releases in May, in the middle of when Suicide Squad is set to be filming.

Other actors still confirmed to be attached to Suicide Squad include Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto. Suicide Squad is set to release in August of 2016.
