Todd McFarlane has created a television development and production extension of McFarlane Films. It has a first look TV deal with Wiip, the producers behind Mare of Easttown.

“Having been in development with Jason Blum at Blumhouse, along with attaching Jamie Foxx on a potential Spawn movie franchise, other opportunities both in film and television came forward which led to this expansion in entertainment,” McFarlane said.

The initial television development slate under McFarlane films, overseen by McFarlane and his President of Television Sean Canino, includes McFarland and Thumbs.

McFarland is a stop-motion event series that will feature original McFarlane Toys, described as a combination of Night at the Museum, Toy Story, and Twin Peaks. It was created by Thomas Lennon (co-creator Reno 911!) in partnership with ShadowMachine (a producer on BoJack Horseman) and Wiip.

Thumbs is a live-action drama based on Sean Lewis’ graphic novel, which will be adapted by Anders Weidemann (co-creator of Interrogation). In the graphic novel, a teenage boy named Charlie “Thumbs” James enters an esports tournament that turns into real life battles.

Another upcoming project is the live-action Sam & Twitch series based on characters from Spawn. Jason Smilovic and Todd Katzberg are writing that adaptation.

“The rare combination of artistic genius and trailblazing entrepreneurship that defines Todd’s career over the last 30 years is a true marvel,” Wiip’s Mark Roybal said. “Wiip’s strategic partnership in television with McFarlane Films, led by Sean Canino, allows us to tap into a pipeline of global IP and collaborate with emerging voices in the comic book world which will bring audiences into new universes infused with Todd’s wonderfully twisted vision of the world.”
