ThunderCats are on the loose and ready for gameplay action. Dynamite Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products have launched a Kickstarter campaign for the ThunderCats roleplaying tabletop game.

Lynnvander Studios, a Canadian tabletop game studio, designed and wrote the campaign and setting book, which is compatible with the 5e model. Designers on the project include Tommy Gofton, Devin Wilson, Bryan C.P. Steele, Josh Derksen, and Adam Petkovic, who previously collaborated with Dynamite on the Reanimator game.

The book is filled with nearly 250 pages of both mechanics and lore with official art that harkens back to the Saturday morning cartoon and Dynamite’s current comics. It contains reference material, including the information on the Code of Thundera, the Book of Omens and Eye of Thundera artifacts, the Great Migration history, war with Plun-Darr, their travels to Earth, and Mumm-Ra’s rise to power.

“Harnessing the power of Thundrillium, players will sustain their technology, pilot starships through cosmic storms, wield enchanted armaments and ancient spells. On the plains of Third Earth, laser rifles and mystic blades alike clash, wizards and robots duel, and vital resources include both raw courage and energy cells. This indispensable tome brings the action, spectacle, and excitement of ThunderCats to the tabletop setting and game nights for many years to come,” per the description.

“Through the character creation process, players can pick from among newly created subclasses like the Mechanist, Path of Collision, College of Omens, Ancient Spirits of Evil and Good Domain, Circle of the Croft, Operator, Warrior of the Claw, Oath of Destiny, Evil-Chaser, Heckler, Metamorphosis Sorcery, Mongor Patron, and Magician. Then a wide variety of character backgrounds are presented, with the ‘open book’ design also allowing creative players to craft their own. Thunderian builds can opt to be strong, fast, tough, clever, wise, or proud in establishing their appearance and abilities. Those looking for some extra fun or unique playstyle can play as Humans, Snarfs, Berbils, Snowfolk, Tuska, and even Mu’Tants (with multiple factions and forms available). Countless further abilities, stats, and mechanics then follow ensuring each and every adventure offers a unique experience,” the description states.

The book comes with bios, skills, and stats for nearly all of the established characters, including Lion-O, Cheetara, Bengali, Tygra, Jaga, Lynx-O, Panthro, Pumyra, WilyKat, WilyKit, Snarf, and franchise villains. It details settings from Third Earth, New Thundera, around the cosmos, and other dimensions are open for exploration during gameplay. Equipment and vehicles that can be used during the game are also featured in the book.

The base hardcover version features David Nakayama’s ThunderCats #1 cover that began their comics at Dynamite. There’s also a limited edition printing of Nakayama’s art that focuses on Lion-O. The Kickstarter campaign runs until January 16, 2026.
