This weekend, Morgantown welcomes the second edition of West Virginia Popular Culture Convention (WVPopCon) with Batman: The Dark Knight artist Ethan Van Sciver, and a guest list that includes New York Times best selling writer Kyle Higgins (Batman: Gates Of Gotham) writer-colorist Brian Buccellato (The Flash), writer J.T. Krul (Fathom), artist Tommy Patterson (Game Of Thrones), artist Kyle Hotz (The Hood), artist Ron Frenz (Amazing Spider-Man), writer Chris Yambar (Bart Simpson Comics), and artist Jerry Gaylord (The Regular Show), among others.

The August 24-25, 2013 show will be held at Mylan Park, Morgantown, West Virginia. Show hours will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The second annual West Virginia Popular Culture Convention is fully supported by comic book retailers in the Morgantown area, including Comic Paradise Plus (hosting the Warhammer tournament, sponsored Aspen Comics and their show exclusive variants, Geek Trivia), Four Horsemen Comics (sponsoring the Magic the Gathering tournament), The Game Exchange (sponsoring the free video game play), and The Illusive Skull (sponsoring RJ Haddy of SyFy’s FaceOff for panels, costume contest).

Additionally, there will be other stores representing West Virginia (Gary’s Comics, Lost Legion, Nerducopia), Pennsylvania (New Dimension Comics, Game Vault, TeeMinus24), and Ohio (Build It Brickworks, Super Fly Comics) setting up at the show.

Aspen Comics makes its WVPopCon debut as part of its “10 new #1s” program, and they have teamed with Comic Paradise Plus to produce a set of show exclusive variant cover editions. These new comics will be available at the con or via the VIP ticket package online, and There will be six Aspen creators will be onsite to sign these comics including JT Krul, Frank Mastromauro, Peter Steigerwald, and Chris Ehnot.

The full guest roster is available on the show’s site, and it will be updated between now and the show, which is just eight days away.  The show will host panels on everything from comic creating, podcasting, movie making to costume and zombie creation. There will be a costume contest and general cosplaying throughout the show, and there will be various board, table and video gaming tournaments including Magic: The Gathering, Warhammer 40K, and Pokemon with prizes, and there even be a little Geek Trivia to spice things up. West Virginia native Jeremy Ambler, who has been featured as a walker on The Walking Dead, will also be in attendance.
