FBI Agents Mulder and Scully are investigating more unexplainable cases in the new X-Files comic that begins in December 2026. Joe Harris, who wrote the X-Files: Season 10 and Season 11 ongoing series, is returning to the franchise to pen the new book. He is joined by artist Riley Brown (Cable & Deadpool). The book from Dynamite Entertainment and Disney Publishing Worldwide picks up after “My Struggle IV,” the last episode of season eleven and the series finale.

“Agents Mulder and Scully return once more to the FBI’s X-Files division in the shadow of the loss of their child William, the presumed death of the Cigarette Smoking Man, and the cliffhanger ending of Scully being pregnant once more. The shadows soon touch our heroes again as the conspiracy of a secret alien presence in the world is tracked down by both the duo and a mysterious organization seeking to harness it for their own purposes,” according to the synopsis.

The X-Files TV show premiered in 1993, introducing a very small division in the FBI dedicated to studying unexplainable cases. Agent Mulder (David Duchovny), a man who believes in the possibilities of aliens, ghosts, and everything else strange and unusual, starts out as the solo member of the division. No-nonsense Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) is assigned to work with Mulder, despite her deep skepticism and belief that science can explain any phenomena. The show ran for nine seasons through 2002, then returned for two more seasons that aired in 2016 and 2018.

X-Files first joined comics in 1995 with a three-issue miniseries from Topps, followed by a 45-issue ongoing series that lasted until 1998. When IDW got the license for X-Files comics, they published the Season 10 series that ran for 25 issues. After that, IDW concentrated on publishing limited series and one-shots through 2018.

The new X-Files series will feature covers by Clayton Crain (Ghost Rider), Ivan Tao (Amazing Spider-Man), and Charlie Adlard (The Walking Dead). There’s a special icon cover by Miran Kim who worked on the original Topps X-Files series. Dynamite is also offering a blind bag filled with variants that includes a piece by Martin Morasso (The Deadman).

“The X-Files only gets more relevant as the years go by and the government gets weirder and weirder, the UFOs become mainstream, and the trust in institutions, from the government on down, gets harder and harder to spare,” Harris said.

The X-Files #1 will be in comic book stores on December 9.
