The Tiny Onion production house is beginning their adult animation projects with an adaptation of CEO James Tynion IV’s The Woods. Tiny Onion also announced that industry pro Casey Gonzalez has joined as the Director of Multimedia to oversee development of the animated projects.

Published by BOOM! Studios, the sci-fi horror comic was co-created by Tynion and artist Michael Dialynas (Wynd). In The Woods, a typical suburban high school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is transported to an alien forest at the far reaches of the universe with no indication as to why. The story follows a group of students who try to survive the unknown environment and the threats in the woods, while doing their best to find a way home.

“The Woods was the horror story that launched my career in creator owned comics. I think you can see the blueprints in it for almost every story I’ve written since. I still feel like it may be my best idea, the world and characters Michael and I created still live so clearly in my mind,” Tynion said. “I can’t wait to bring them to life for a new audience. I’ve spent the last ten years dreaming of being in a place where I could bring it to life in animation, and I’m thrilled that Tiny Onion has opened the door to that.”

Tynion and Dialynas will be executive producers for Tiny Onion and Stephen Christy and Mette Norkjaer will executive produce for BOOM! Studios.

“The Woods was my first collaboration with James that threw me into creating long-form creator-owned comics,” Dialynas said. “The experience and friendships made along the way creating this series will always be a huge part of me; the love I have for the story, characters, and a certain purple space-monkey has stuck with me ever since. So being able to visit the creepy woods again in a whole new format is a journey that I can’t wait to see our misfit cast be a part of!”

The Woods adult animated series will be Gonzalez’s first project since joining Tiny Onion in December 2025. Before she joined Tiny Onion, Gonzalez spent a decade as the Vice President of Development at FredFilms. Working with Fred Seibert (Adventure Time), she developed original cartoons, including the short, The Summoning.

The Woods animated series does not have a release date yet.
