The Simpsons Take on Anime, Adventure Time and More
On the October 19, 2014 episode of The Simpsons, “Treehouse of Horror XXV,” the family was face to face with their original Tracey Ullman Show incarnations. But a gag at the end of the episode showed off several more potential alternate-universe counterparts, referencing many other popular American cartoons, as well as anime.
The joke that’s got the anime community talking features the second version of the family through the door – Maggie is Pikachu from Pokemon, Lisa is Mikasa from Attack on Titan, Bart is Naruto from Naruto, Homer is Zoro from One Piece, Marge is Matsumoto from Bleach, and Santa’s Little Helper is Haku from Spirited Away. The Simpson clan is then seen as Finn, Jake, Fionna, Ice King, and Princess Bubblegum from Adventure Time. South Park, Archer, and Despicable Me are also referenced.
