The Silver Age of Comic Book Art

Historian Arlen Schumer, a contributor to
Comic Book Marketplace, Comic Book Artist and other publications,
has assembled a glittering tribute to the Silver Age comic book pioneers. The
Silver Age of Comic Book Art is a volume that captures the exploding fervor
of what is still in historical terms a very young art form. With detailed looks
at the work of Carmine Infantino, Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, Gil Kane, Joe Kubert,
Gene Colan, Jim Steranko, and Neal Adams, this book is a real treasure. Comic
scribe Alan Moore called it, “A lovingly crafted tribute to the superhero
comic of the 1960s,” and he was right. Well-rounded and thought-provoking,
it’s packed with great examples of each creator’s work and it brings their
diverse talents together in an entertaining fashion.
Even the reclusive
Steve Ditko wrote in with his review: “The Silver Age of Comic Book Art is
a unique achievement by Arlen Schumer and will be an ongoing source of
reference, study and enjoyment for everyone interested in comics.” How can
you beat that?
This book is available in two editions – a standard soft
cover and a deluxe hard cover – and is due in comic shops in mid-November. The
Deluxe Edition retails for $49.95.
