The Overstreet Guide To Collecting Comic & Animation Art Due Out October 9
The Overstreet Guide To Collecting Comic & Animation Art, the second book in the new Overstreet “How To” series is headed from the printer to Diamond Comic Distributors, and it’s due in comic shops on Wednesday, October 9, 2013.
With record prices established on a regular basis, the market for original comic art has never been more compelling. And now a resurgent animation art market is commanding attention as well. If those areas of collecting seem daunting, The Overstreet Guide To Collecting Comic & Animation Art is a great place to start. It offers the terminology you need to know along with the expertise of seasoned collectors and dealers who will help you get to know what to look for and how to look for it.
The book features a Silver Surfer #1 recreation cover by renowned painter Joe Jusko.
“The only way to do this brand new book was with major contributions from folks ranging from Joe Mannarino of All Star Auctions to Ron Stark of S/R Labs, and with assistance from many dealers, collectors and historians,” said J.C. Vaughn, Vice-President of Publishing for Gemstone Publishing.
“If we tried to name everyone, we’d inevitably leave someone out, but Weldon Adams, Robert Beerbohm, Scott Braden, Mike Burkey, Bruce Canwell, Art Cloos, Rob Hughes, Michael Kronenberg, S.C. Ringgenberg, Ken Scarboro, and Mark Squirek helped get it written, Mark Haynes, Rob Hughes, Michael Kronenberg, and Mark Wheatley, helped get it designed, and Peter Bilelis, Steve Borock, Shawn Caffrey, Michael Carbonaro, Frank Cwiklik, Michael Eury, Tom Fish, Stephen Fishler, Douglas Gillock, Tom Gordon III, Paul Litch, Nadia Mannarino, Harry Matetsky, Peter Merolo, Josh Nathanson, Rob Reynolds, Barry Sandoval, Brian Schutzer, Todd Sheffer, Anthony Snyder, Maggie Thompson, Alex Winter, and Vincent Zurzolo gave support with great input about collecting,” he said.
“Early in the process, the enthusiasm of collector Nick Katradis, Heritage’s Steve Borock and Barry Sandoval, and Comic Art Con founders Dan Gallo and Joe Veteri really helped make this book a reality,” Vaughn said. “And none of this would have been possible without the energetic support of Steve Geppi and Bob Overstreet, who really encouraged our outreach into this niche of the comic market.
“We’ve thanked our advertisers previously, but it is worth repeating that without their support, books like this just wouldn’t be possible. So, again, thanks to Dave Anderson, All Star Auctions, Archangels, Best Comics, Steve Bialick, Mike Burkey (Romitaman), Cloud 9 Comics, ComicConnect.com, ComicLink.com, Diamond International Galleries, Dan Gallo, E. Gerber Products, Geppi’s Entertainment Museum, Hake’s Americana & Collectibles, Heritage Auctions, Nick Katradis, The Library of American Comics, and Luna, Moon-Hunter,” he said.
The book was co-edited and designed by Mark Huesman, with additional editing and proofing by John Clark and Mike Wilbur.
