The Loose End #4
Titan Comics; $3.99
Steven Hollis is at the worst bachelor party of all time. A screenwriter with a failing career, Steven was approached by a mobster who gave him a choice: kill Hollywood producer Benny Blevins who assaulted his daughter, and his debt would be wiped clean. His assignment was to do the deed during Benny’s bachelor party trip in Mexico. Steven managed an invitation through his friend, actor Diedrich Ryan.
But things went sideways quickly, when the arrogant group of actors irritated the wrong drug dealers and killed some of them. Now, three members of the group are dead and local kingpin Diego Hernandez is on a rampage to kill the four guys who are still alive. Cornered and out of options to flee, Steven comes up with a plan that is so far-fetched it just might work.
The Loose End by Dave Dwonch, artist Travis Hymel, and colorist Geraldo Filho is like the best over the top, ridiculous action movies. Improbable scenarios, unwinnable odds that are repeatedly defied, and characters pulling survival skills out of nowhere. Aside from Steven, there aren’t many people to root for in this book – it’s filled with entitled bros and drug dealers – but the action and surprises make their antics worth it.
