The Haunting of Hill House
They say home is where you feel loved and safe. But what if your home is overrun by ghosts, both literal and figurative, that have come to haunt you? This is the reality for the residents of Hill House: supernatural investigator Dr. John Montague, shy recluse Eleanor Vance and her aging mother Theodora, and heir to the 80-year-old mansion Luke Sanderson.
Hoping to find scientific evidence to back up his supernatural claims, Dr. Montague rents Hill House and invites guests who have experience with the paranormal. Only Eleanor and Theodora accept the invitation, where they join Montague and Sanderson. The four visitors, along with the caretakers Mr. and Mrs. Dudley, begin to form friendships as they investigate the violent history of Hill House.
The longer they remain at Hill House, the stranger things become. Every resident begins to experience unexplained events, including unseen noises, ghosts roaming the halls, and strange writing on the walls. Of all the residents, Eleanor appears to be the most susceptible to experiencing phenomena. Later on, Mrs. Montague and headmaster Arthur Parker arrive at Hill House and begin an investigation of their own. Between fighting against unseen forces and experiencing ghostly apparitions, summer at Hill House is less than ideal.
Penned by renowned horror novelist Shirley Jackson, The Haunting of Hill House is considered one of the best literary ghost stories of all time. Since its release in 1959, the gothic horror novel has been made into two feature films, once in 1963 and again in 1999. It was also adapted for the stage in 1964 and 2015. But did you know the mysterious events of Hill House will play out once more on the small screen?
Created, directed and executive produced by Mike Flanagan (Oculus), The Haunting of Hill House, will debut on Netflix on October 12, 2018. This horror series stars Timothy Hutton, Carla Gugino, Michel Huisman, Elizabeth Reaser, Kate Siegel, Lulu Wilson, Victoria Pedretti, and Henry Thomas.
