The Force Awakens Crushes Presale Ticket Records
Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens recently opened presale tickets and it has destroyed advance ticket sales in the U.S. and U.K. According to Fandango, the newest installment in the space opera sold eight times as many tickets on the first day as the previous record holder, 2012’s The Hunger Games.
IMAX, which has never made more than $1 million in a 24-hour period, sold $6.5 million in ticket sales in one day. It was also the bestselling movie on movietickets.com with 95% of sales going to The Force Awakens in 24 hours.
At this point, it’s possible, even likely, that Episode VII will become the highest grossing film of all time. The Force Awakens was directed by J.J. Abrams, and written by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (writer of The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi). The movie stars original trilogy cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, and Warwick Davis. They’ll be joined by Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, Simon Pegg, Andy Serkis, and Adam Driver.
Since the 1970s, Star Wars collecting has been a popular hobby, covering everything from clothing to movie posters to action figures and playsets.
