Marvel’s First Family was number one at the box office when The Fantastic Four: First Steps earned $118 million domestically during its opening weekend. The movie earned another $100 million internationally, for a global total of $218 million for its first weekend in theaters.

The movie had the fourth biggest opening of 2025, behind A Minecraft Movie ($162 million), Lilo & Stitch ($146 million), and fellow comic-based superhero movie, Superman ($125 million).

Imax accounted for 13.6% of ticket sales, with all premium large format showings accounting for 46% of all ticket sales.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grim/The Thing), and Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch) as the superhero team. Directed by Matt Shakman, the movie is set in a retro futuristic New York City on a different earth than the ones seen in the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The movie is set four years after the foursome gained their powers and are now the premier heroes of their world. Life is going well for the group, including the news that Sue is pregnant, when the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) arrives to inform them that Galactus (Ralph Ineson) is on his way to devour their world. The Fantastic Four must do whatever they can to stop the destruction of their planet and save the human race.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps was Marvel’s biggest opening weekend since Deadpool & Wolverine cleared $211 million when it debuted in the summer of 2024. Since then, Captain America: Brave New World earned $100 million domestically on its opening weekend in February 2025, and Thunderbolts* saw $76 million domestically when it opened in May 2025.

This is the third Fantastic Four film series to reach theaters since the 2000s. 20th Century Fox released films in 2005 and ’07 starring Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis. Then in 2015 a new version of the team was created, starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell.

The new Fantastic Four also stars Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, Sarah Niles, Mark Gatiss, and Matthew Wood.
