The spirits and demonic forces are taking over the television. The Conjuring supernatural horror film franchise is being adapted as a TV series on HBO Max’s newly branded Max.

The Conjuring films began in 2013, telling fictionalized versions of the exploits of real life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorrain Warren. The movie was followed by two sequels – The Conjuring 2 in 2016 and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It in 2021. The movies have also spawned spinoff film series, including 2014’s Annabelle, about a possessed doll, and its prequel Annabelle: Creation and sequel Annabelle Comes Home. Other films in the supernatural franchise include The Nun, its upcoming sequel, and The Crooked Man, which is in development.

The show will continue the story that has been told in the films with producer Peter Safran set to executive produce the series. James Wan, who has produced and directed Conjuring films is in talks to executive produce the show.

Warner Bros. did not announce any casting news, particularly if Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who star in the movies as the Warrens, will be in the show.
