The iconic work of fantasy artist Joe Jusko is collected and showcased in the new deluxe art volume, The Book of Jusko. Curated and published by comics vet Joe Pruett, the book is now seeking backers on Kickstarter. This is Pruett’s first Kickstarter campaign and marks the relaunch of Desperado Books.

“In 1992, Jusko’s Marvel Masterpieces trading card set exploded onto the scene, forever changing the way fans experienced superheroes. His powerful, dramatic, and realistic paintings set a new standard for comic and fantasy art. The Book of Jusko brings together more than 230 pages of Jusko’s most iconic illustrations, rare commissions, trading card art, covers, and personal works – including pieces never before seen by the public,” per the press release.

The deluxe hardcover edition features full color art. There’s a deluxe slipcase edition featuring a signed tip-in sheet and custom slipcase, limited to 500 copies. The masterpiece edition has a virgin cover, foil-accented slipcase, upgraded materials, and signed tip-in sheet, limited to 300 copies. An exclusive six-card trading card set printed on premium stock with dual-sided gloss is only available through the campaign.

“I’m so incredibly stoked to be working with my long-time friend Joe Jusko on this testimony to such a fabulous career that has now entered its SIXTH decade of excellence,” Pruett said. “In the past, I’ve worked with some amazingly talented artists, editing and designing 10 art book retrospectives, with a couple of Eisner Award nominations (and one win!), and I have missed the partnership that is formed when working closely with these talented creators. I knew that I wanted to return to producing these volumes and that the first person I would ask to return with me would be Joe Jusko.”

Pledge levels start with The Book of Jusko trading card set for $30 and a signed set of the trading cards for $50. The Book of Jusko deluxe edition is $75, the slipcase edition is $125, and the masterpiece edition is $200. There’s also a retailer tier in which retailers can get two copies of the deluxe edition for $75.

The Kickstarter campaign has already flown beyond its $10,000 goal (at press time it was closing in on $70,000). The campaign is seeking backers until September 18, 2025.
