The neo-noir Western That Texas Blood written by Chris Condon (Of the Earth) and illustrated by Jacob Phillips (Everything Dead & Dying) is being developed by FX as a television series.

Jim Mickle and E.L. Katz are writing and executive producing the show with Mickle also directing. Mickle has experience adapting comics for television through his work as director, showrunner, and writer of Netflix’s Sweet Tooth. Katz was the co-executive producer and producing director on Netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor.

Condon is an executive producer and Phillips is a co-executive producer on the show.

Condon and Phillips introduced That Texas Blood in June 2020 with a search for a missing casserole dish that led to a heated confrontation on Sheriff Joe Bob Coates’ 70th birthday. Story arcs bounce across timelines as a man returns to town when his brother disappears, a 1981-set story involves a missing child and a cult, and one in 1992 finds a dead woman in the snow who may be the victim of a serial killer. The crime series that Image compared to Yellowstone, Breaking Bad, and No Country for Old Men ran for 20 issues through December 2022.

The six-issue prequel series, The Enfield Gang Massacre, takes place 150 years in the past when Montgomery Enfield’s gang comes up against a seasoned Texas Ranger.

The announcement did not disclose an expected release date or casting news.
