ComicLink has announced that the Ted and Lisa Van Liew Comic Art Collection is coming to auction in 2026. The best of the collection will be auctioned within the Art Session of the Winter Featured Auction, launching in February 2026.

Ted and Lisa Van Liew are the owners of New England’s Superworld Comics.

“Ted started collecting comic books in 1969 at the age of 10. He fell in love with gradually putting runs of various titles together, and learned to draw by copying images created by his favorite comic artists. His best friend and collecting buddy Tom Massarelli (‘Maz’) became interested in original art while at a comic show with Ted in Boston in 1972. Maz started collecting original comic book and comic strip art in 1986, and his excitement rubbed off on Ted, who, with his meager resources, would pick up a comic page occasionally. The goal was to acquire at least one good representative page by each of his favorite artists,” the Van Liews said.

“Lisa then entered the picture in 1987, and helped Ted to launch Superworld Comics as a business. It was a time when the hobby was growing by leaps and bounds, and art was around in large quantities, if only there was money to buy some! So, Ted continued to buy the occasional art page, maybe one or two per year.

“As the business grew, Lisa and Ted became increasingly interested in picking up pieces of art, as well as the comics themselves whenever possible. In the new millennium, both got more serious about getting pages that had a ‘specialness’ about them, be it a visual punch or an outstanding combo of art continuity and storytelling. Some slipped through their hands over the years, but what you see here are the pieces that remained in the collection, as treasured friends.  Just the feeling of being the owner and curator of these wonderful pages has been extremely satisfying, but it’s time to share the wealth. You’ll notice that there’s a theme, a ‘feel’ to the collection. Most of these pieces haven’t seen the light of day for decades, so they’re essentially new to the market!” the Van Liews said

Among the over two dozen pieces by several of the greatest talents in the hobby, are:

  • Steve Ditko twice-up pages from Amazing Spider-Man #13 (Spider-Man/Peter Parker, Betty Brant, and J. Jonah Jameson), and Strange Tales #141 (Doctor Strange vs. Dormammu)
