DC and Marvel Comics have had a long-standing rivalry throughout the comic
industry, but none more time-honored than the annual DC vs. Marvel Softball
game. The charity game, to benefit A Commitment To Our Roots (A.C.T.O.R.) Comic
Fund, will take place Thursday, July 20, 2006 during the opening day of this
year’s Comicon International in San Diego.

Open pitch is scheduled for
3:00 pm at Morley Field in Balboa Park and admission to the game is free to
anyone who would like to support their favorite creators and company. For fans
unable to drive or unfamiliar with the area, A.C.T.O.R will be providing
round-trip shuttle service and freebies from Dynamic Forces for a $15 donation
to the Comic Fund.

“Forget market share or who gets more coverage
in Wizard,” said Mike Marts, Editor for Marvel’s X-Men
books, in a recent press release. “This is about batting averages, on-base
percentage and home runs! Now we’ll really see whose number one, and the best
part is, we get to help a great cause in A.C.T.O.R. along the
way.”

In addition to being able to root for you favorite team, two
luck fans (one Marvel fan and One DC fan) will be able to take the field along
with their team to play for bragging rights. A.C.T.O.R. will be conducting two
eBay auctions to fill those two coveted spot and raise money for worthwhile
charity. And as if that wasn’t enough, autograph softballs and jerseys will also
be raffled off after the game to benefit A.C.T.O.R.

“Mets vs.
Yankees is kid stuff,” said Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada, in a press
release. “This is the rivalry of the millennium! Blood will be spilled,
beer shall be drunk, and all will have a great time.”
