Supergirl Review: Red Faced

I’m having mixed feelings about this week’s episode. While I enjoyed some parts, I found myself simply shaking my head at others.

The episode begins with Supergirl stopping two hot headed drivers from running over a group of school kids. Despite defending herself against one driver, Kara is then accused of “losing her cool” and scaring the kids she just saved. I’m not sure when protecting yourself from harm became losing your cool, but okay.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, Lucy’s army father, General Lane is paying the DEO a visit. He’s brought along with him a court order forcing Supergirl to participate in combat against his robot. This robot is actually a highly intelligent android called the Red Tornado, created by Dr. Morrow. During her fight against the Red Tornado, Supergirl goes a little too far and ends up severely damaging the android. The Red Tornado goes rogue and flies off, much to General Lanes’s displeasure. After firing Dr. Morrow, the General orders the immediate capture of the Red Tornado.

Back at the office, Kara stands up to Cat, and immediately regrets it. Cat however takes her out for drinks and provides some surprisingly good advice about controlling her anger. Meanwhile, against her better judgment, Alex asks Maxwell for help with finding the Red Tornado.

After an awkward dinner with Lucy and James, the Red tornado attempts to harm General Lane. Supergirl flies in and manages to stop the Red Tornado’s tornado from hurting anyone. Soon after, Henshaw uncovers the truth behind the Red Tornado, which was ultimately created to fight Kryptonians. Alex, on the other hand, thanks to Maxwell, learns the android is still being controlled by Dr. Morrow. Note to self, never fire someone with a robotic killing machine on his side.

After setting up a trap, Alex ends up killing Dr. Morrow while Supergirl once again battles the Red Tornado. Kara channels all her pent up aggression into her heat vision and blows the Red Tornado to pieces.

Just when Kara thought things might be cooling down, Winn has some startling news for her and Alex. It turns out her father went missing after a mission to find a hostile alien. The only person to come back from this mission alive, was none other than Hank Henshaw. Alex is more determined than ever to find out what Henshaw is hiding. Kara meanwhile is more concerned over the fact that for once in her life, a simple piece of glass has cut her. If they’re going to take away her powers for next week, I sincerely hope the writing will at least be super.
