CBS ordered seven more episodes to the first season of Supergirl, bringing the freshman show to 20 episodes. It’s still shorter than the standard 22-episode season, but much longer than the half-season/miniseries runs of other shows.

Supergirl debuted later than most fall premieres, but it garnered the no. 1 ratings spot for shows that began in fall 2015. It began with a 3.1 rating among adults 18-49 with 12.9 million viewers and currently the show averages a 2.8 rating.

Supergirl is the only comic book based show running on CBS. It follows the recent success of other comic inspired series like Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter on ABC, Arrow and The Flash on The CW, and Gotham on FOX.

Creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg have been knocking them out of the park lately. In addition to producing Supergirl, they are also the executive producers of fellow DC-based comic shows Arrow and The Flash. Supergirl was also created by Ali Adler, who executive produced Glee where Supergirl star Melissa Benoist gained popularity.
