Mastro Auctions has sold Jerry Kramer’s replica Super Bowl I as part of an
ongoing effort to raise funds for former NFL players in need. The winner, a
Green Bay resident who has asked that his name not be disclosed, purchased the
ring for $22,000, nearly double the amount experts predicted.

A member of
Vince Lombardi’s World Champion Green Bay Packers teams, Kramer has become very
active in helping with benefits and pension needs of NFL Players. In a recent
press release he said “I have always felt great concern and frustration
regarding the condition of some of the retired players who helped build the
league. The physical and economic conditions they deal with due to the lack of a
sufficient pension and disability compensation is
reprehensible.”

Kramer has set up his own site to hold future
auctions. He has enlisted quite a few figures to help him in his goal. Among
them Mike Ditka, Bart Starr, Paul Hornung and many others. You can visit the
site at http://www.jerrykramer.com.

We’re
pleased to see that someone invested more than what collectors traditionally
think a replica ring like this is worth,” said Doug Allen, president and COO of
Mastro Auctions in a press release. “The ring has an interesting story behind it
and was being sold for a great cause, which really elevated its value. Bringing
all of these great former players together as part of this mega auction is sure
to help raise the awareness of a very sad situation.”.

Mastro Auctions
has a long and established record of providing the best environment for sports
auctions. This sale is further proof that they are among the industry leaders in
the field. You can visit Mastro at http://www.mastronet.com/index.cfm?Action=DisplayContent&ContentName=Home%20Page.
This week’s issue of Scoop also features details on their current Classic
Collector’s Auction.
