Stranger Things Teaser Reveals Season 5 Release Dates
It’s hard to believe, but Stranger Things debuted nearly a decade ago in 2016. Now fans are finally getting the conclusion of the sci-fi series set in the 1980s with the fifth and final season. Netflix dropped a teaser trailer during their Tudum fan event on Saturday, May 31, 2025, announcing when the show will return to the streamer.
The nostalgia heavy trailer revisits important moments from the first four seasons. It opens with Joyce (Winona Ryder) telling Will (Noah Schnapp) how often she thinks about the night he disappeared, then shows her communicating with him through the blinking Christmas lights.
There’s the moment that Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) find Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), when Eleven flipped the van, Will being tormented by the Mind Flayer, and the group fighting the monster in the mall. It recaps Eddie’s heroic (and so metal) death, Max (Sadie Sink) being chased by Vecna, and Hopper (David Harbour) fighting Demogorgons to get out of the Russian prison.
About halfway into the trailer, it catches up to the entire cast who were finally reunited at the end of season four when the Upside Down had cracked its way into our world. Will tells his mother that they failed in the past and need to be ready for what’s to come. New footage of season five comes in flashes that show a group hiding from something in a barn, Lucas at Max’s hospital bedside, Steve (Joe Keery) and Dustin in the Upside Down, a giant gooey vine wall, Mike protecting a group of kids, and Will screaming that everyone should run.
The eight-episode final season is split into three volumes. Volume 1 will drop on November 26 (the day before Thanksgiving), followed by Volume 2 on Christmas, and Volume 3 New Year’s Eve. Netflix did not reveal how many episodes would run in each volume.
Additional Stranger Things cast returning for season five includes Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, Jamie Campbell Bower, Cara Buono, Amybeth McNulty, and Nell Fisher. Terminator star Linda Hamilton is joining the cast for season five.
