Stranger Things Renewed For Third Season
The breakout sci-fi/fantasy Stranger Things has officially been renewed by Netflix for a third season. Season one of the supernatural series debuted in July 2016, followed by the second season in October 2017. Created and directed by the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things follows the bizarre phenomenon plaguing the residents of Hawkins, Indiana in the early 1980s.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, within 24 hours of its debut, 361,000 Netflix subscribers completed the entire season, while 15.8 million viewers were cited as streaming the season within the first three days. Ahead of the season two release, the Duffer Brothers revealed that work on season three was under way.
“The hardest thing with this story is that we were tracking these multiple storylines and having them sort of build about at the same pace as to crescendo at the same time. It’s always the hardest part as we move into writing. Like we’re starting on season three now, it’s always the most difficult thing just to get those to build simultaneously. It’s always a challenge, and so we’re still learning. I mean, we’re trying to do this eight-hour, nine-hour movie so to get that pacing just right, you know, it’s always hard,” Ross Duffer previously shared.
Commenting on how the show wasn’t “built to sustain like ten seasons,” Matt Duffer added “We have an ending in mind, you know what I mean? We think we know where we want it to end basically, we’re not sure how long it’s going to take to get there. If a lot of people continue to watch the show that’s not reason enough to do another season. There has to be a narrative reason for it to exist. Mostly we have to be excited about it and actors and everyone involved who give so much of their time over the show have to be excited about it.”
Stranger Things season two is currently streaming on Netflix and stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Sadie Sink, and Dacre Montgomery.
