Star Wars Rebel Helmet in Next Propstore Entertainment Auction
Propstore is set to offer a selection of Star Wars film-used collectibles in their Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, which will take place in September 2025 in Los Angeles.
The auction house is starting to preview some of Star Wars lots that will be up for bid, such as a Rebel Pilot helmet that was made for The Empire Strikes Back. Designed by Oscar winning costume designer John Mollo, the helmet was made for Rebel snowspeeder pilots during the Hoth battle sequence.
The helmet has notable features, including the yellow tinted visor, the Rebel symbol, and thick foam liner in the interior. It is one of only two helmets known that contain the original liner, and is in unrestored, original condition.
This is the first time the helmet has come to auction in 25 years. It was held in a private collection and before that, it originated from Patricia Carr, the Assistant Production Manager on the original trilogy.
“Rebel Pilot helmets are one of the most sought-after artifacts from the original Star Wars trilogy,” Propstore COO Brandon Alinger said. “Only a handful of original helmets exist in private collections and this helmet – with such exceptional provenance – is a superb helmet. These helmets were made in far smaller numbers than Imperial helmets such as stormtroopers and many were discarded at the end of production. The survival of this piece, unrestored and linked directly to The Empire Strikes Back, makes it a true treasure for collectors.”
Interested collectors can sign up for updates on Propstore’s website. They are seeking consignments for auctions in 2025 and can be reached at sell@propstore.com.
