Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens Trailer
Football fans weren’t the only ones tuned in to ESPN Monday night. The full-length Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens trailer debuted during halftime of the Philadelphia Eagles-New York Giants game on Monday Night Football sending many sci-fi fan hearts a flutter.
The trailer opens on new characters Rey, exploring a derelict ship, and Finn, contemplating his place in the universe. Then we hear Kylo Ren’s sonorous, deep voice as he speaks to the battered helmet of Darth Vader, before being treated to the Millennium Falcon fleeing from TIE Fighters. The original trilogy meets the new with Han Solo coming face to face with Rey and Finn. Captain Phasma is still elusive, though, she does cut quite the intimidating figure. Get ready to pause at the 1:57 mark as we finally get to see Princess Leia. The trailer closes with the commanding, “The Force is calling to you…Just let it in.”
Mark Hamill is still absent from the trailer, could he appear in a follow-up trailer or video. We can only hope.
As of 11 AM ET on Tuesday, just a few hours after it had been posted, the trailer had racked up over 9,552,300.
The Force Awakens will be in theaters on December 18, 2015. Returning series stars are Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, Anthony Daniels, and Warwick Davis. Joining the franchise are Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o, and Simon Pegg.
