Star Wars: A New Hope Back in Theaters for 50th Anniversary
Luke Skywalker is using the Force to fly his X-wing into theaters for a 50th anniversary rerelease of Star Wars: A New Hope. The film will return to theaters on February 19, 2027.
A New Hope (originally just titled Star Wars) debuted on big screens in 1977, introducing Luke, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Darth Vader, and other iconic characters. The war between the Rebels and the Galactic Empire began the first Star Wars trilogy, leading to a massive multimedia franchise.

The screening will be of the original theatrical version, not the special edition that George Lucas released for the 20th anniversary in 1997. That version features new special effects, scenes, dialogue, and alterations, and is the cut of the film that has been rereleased in theaters and airs on television.
The original cut of the movie has been newly restored for the 2027 rerelease. More details on the anniversary release, including when and where to purchase tickets, will be announced at a future date.
