The PBS Comic Culture series recently interviewed author, comics art historian, and creator rights advocate J. David Spurlock. Created by University of North Carolina Pembroke students and staff, Comic Culture discusses the comics medium with industry artists and writers.

Spurlock has worked in comics for decades, collaborating with luminaries like Jack Kirby, Frank Frazetta, Neal Adams, Jim Steranko, Joe Kubert, Carmine Infantino, John Buscema, John Romita, Stan Lee, and others. For his interview with Comic Culture, Spurlock will discuss the “work for hire” legal doctrine, Vanguard Publishing and the comics artist sketchbook popularity that began in the ‘90s, and Wallace Wood’s influence on Daredevil. He’ll also talk about how comic art attracted him to comic books and impacted his career as an illustrator, collage art professor, and author.

The interview is now available on PBS.org.
