Space Auction Prices Out of This World
Heritage’s First Air and Space Auction brought some incredible prices during the event. When the event ended on September 21, 2007, it totaled over $1.1 Million dollars. At press time after-auctions sales were going strong and expected to take the total even higher.
Many of the highlights came from the personal collection of astronaut Buzz Aldrin. A page of handwritten notes and scripture that he had carried to the Moon realized $179,250. The notes were used as Aldrin celebrated Communion on board Apollo 11 as it circled the Moon. It also contains scripture from John 15:5. In addition to the note Aldrin also took a slide rule with him just in case the computer failed. That slide rule brought $77,675. Other lots from the Aldrin Collection exceeded pre-auction estimates.
The auction also contained reminders of the earliest days of aviation history. A signed portrait of Charles Lindbergh sold for $3,883. Complete details on the auction can be found at http://www.ha.com/.
