Soul Nebula takes readers far into the future where humans have traveled throughout the galaxy. Some of their number have caused a terrible war and now a crew of explorers sent to mend relations with other species have found a major cosmic event. The Afrofuturism space opera comic is published by SUBSUME Media and is currently seeking backers on Kickstarter.

The book is set 300 years in the future when humans have become the least trusted species in the entire galaxy. It started when the New Pilgrims, what remained of Earth’s old powers, fled our world in search of something better. They landed on a beautiful world called Kesseta and were welcomed by the locals. Unfortunately, the New Pilgrims tried to take over the planet and started the Galactic Conflict.

Peace was established after years of war, though all humans are still treated with distrust. In response, Earth’s First Contact Federation sends crews out on peacekeeping missions to build trust and root out any remaining New Pilgrims. The crew of the Baiser-Espace is sent deep into space with a different mission. They are sent to investigate a cosmic event that is waking new powers around the galaxy.

The campaign compares the book to Star Trek, Firefly, and Mass Effect, and the publisher confirmed that the first issue is written, drawn, colored, and lettered.

Backers can get a digital copy of the first issue for $10 or get the physical copy, a digital copy, wallpaper, and backing credit in the book for $25. Both covers, the content listed above, and a fine art print set is $40. There are several more pledge levels with additional add-ons like signed books, a retailer pack, and more.

The Soul Nebula campaign is seeking to raise $5,000; the campaign ends on November 22, 2026.
