On September 18, Jerry Weist and Sotheby’s will present a major comic book
and original comic art auction that promises to be huge. The entire auction will
be featured on the Sotheby’s/E-bay joint Internet Site, split into two auction
offerings that will last for ten bidding days. To consign property to this

Highlights for this
auction will include personal property from the Estate of Tom Sutton, including
Silver-Age covers and interior artwork – as well as an extensive pieces from the
Estate collection of Gray Morrow that includes a host of excellent artwork by
this great artist. There will be the origin artwork to Superman, from the Daily
No. 1, drawn in 1934 by Joe Shuster – and featured originally in Sotheby’s 1994
catalogue – which will be offered at an estimate of $100,000/ to
$150,000.

Also, the auction will feature four early and important covers
by DC Golden Age great Fred Guardineer, for Action Comics #16, More Fun
Comics #47,
and Adventure Comics #34 and 45, a strong
collection of early Golden Age comics that include Batman #1, Superman #1,
Superman #’s 1 – 25, Batman #’s 3 – 5, All Star #2, Sensation Comics #1
, a
very early Krazy Kat daily strip noted as September 3rd, possibly 1910 or
earlier, and a collection of high-grade Tales From the Crypt, The
Vault of Horror
and The Haunt of Fear EC comics.
