start an important project. His friend, Captain Tom Chafe, an Air Force Flight
Nurse, has been stationed in Iraq since the first days of Operation Iraqi
Freedom. Tarbassian thought it would be a worthy venture to begin sending comics
to ill and wounded soldiers also serving in wartime so that they, too, could
experience the small joy and diversion of comic reading.
The project:
Operation Comix Relief. Tarbassian and other dedicated volunteers have sent
hundreds of comics to GIs since the April inception of the project. Recipients
are not limited to Iraq, but to any soldier or unit able to receive packages.
Be sure to check the Operation Comix Relief website at http://www.operationcomixrelief.freeservers.com/
to see how you can help or have comics delivered to your family and friends
serving our country abroad.
