Silver Age Highlights in ComicLink February
Several major key and high-grade Silver Age highlights have recently been added to the growing preview for the ComicLink February Featured Auction, ComicLink President Josh Nathanson has reported.
“In the past few weeks, we have added major items to all segments of the upcoming February auction, and among the most impressive are some stand-out high-grade Silver Age keys. Just a few of the most exceptional items posted to the growing preview include Tales of Suspense #39 CGC 9.4 (first Iron Man), Fantastic Four #1 CGC 9.0, Avengers #1 CGC 9.2, Avengers #4 CGC 9.6 Ohio pedigree (first Silver Age Captain America, second highest), Amazing Spider-Man #1 CGC 9.0 Rocky Mountain pedigree, Tales to Astonish #27 CGC 9.0, and Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 6.5 (first Spider-Man). Having the first issue of Spider-man’s iconic run, the first appearance of the Avengers, the first appearance of Iron Man, the first appearance of Ant-Man, and the first Silver Age Captain America all in high-grade within the same auction (as well as a solid mid-grade example of the first Spider-Man appearance) is very exciting and a great opportunity for our bidders. If you’ve got high grade examples of Amazing Fantasy #15, Incredible Hulk #1, Journey Into Mystery #83, X-Men #1 or other issues that you’ve been thinking about selling — you may want to add it to the mix! This auction will certainly turn up the interested buyers for Silver Age keys,” Nathanson said.
Other Silver Age standouts already posted include Avengers #2 CGC 9.6, Avengers #7 CGC 9.6, Creepy #17 CGC 9.9 (Frazetta cover, single highest), Daredevil #1 CGC 9.0 (first Daredevil), Flash #109 CGC 9.2, Journey Into Mystery #112 CGC 9.2 White Mountain pedigree, Silver Surfer #1 CGC 9.6 (second highest), Tales of Suspense #59 CGC 9.8 (Captain America begins, highest), and Thor #126 CGC 9.6 Twin Cities pedigree.
“It is not just the Silver Age segment of this auction that already includes historic issues, however. From the Golden Age, we have included Captain America Comics #2 CGC 9.0, All Winners Comics #1 CGC 9.4 (second highest), All-Flash #1 CGC 9.4 Denver, Batman #1 CGC 1.8 Q, Jackpot Comics #4 CGC 3.0 (first Archie cover), and Whiz Comics #25 CGC 9.0 (first Captain Marvel, Jr.), just to name a few keys from this era,” he said.
“From the Bronze Age are two rare pre-1975 9.9s – Amazing Spider-Man #125 CGC 9.9 (single highest and the third earliest Amazing Spider-Man 9.9) and Astonishing Tales #25 CGC 9.9 (single highest, first Deathlok),” he said.
“In the original art segment are impressive highlights such as Jack Kirby’s full, 16-page ‘twice-up’ lead story from Thor #134 including the title splash and the best Kirby Galactus splash we’ve ever seen, Todd McFarlane’s Amazing Spider-Man #299 cover which is one of only three black costume Amazing Spider-Man covers by the artist, a Steve Ditko Amazing Spider-Man #37 page featuring an iconic image of Spidey in action, and Alex Schomburg’s WWII-themed All New Comics #5 cover. Great artwork has been posted to the preview daily for some time now!” Nathanson said.
“Material from every segment of the comic hobby is coming in daily from consignors seeking early preview exposure for their auction lots, so interested collectors may want to bookmark the growing preview page and come back often to see what’s new. This is lining up to not only be a very strong offering, but a very well rounded one as well. We are confident that the February auction will give our sellers excellent exposure for their best items. We encourage sellers that have taken note of the outstanding auction results realized in prior ComicLink auctions to capitalize on the opportunity to let our aggressive bidders compete for your items, and to consign early for maximum preview exposure and the most generous cash advances! As always, we will offer you an auction deal that can’t be beat, and we look forward to hearing from you and promoting your items to the fullest,” he said.
