A young man searches for the truth of a Kung Fu legend in Shadow Ghost by real life Kung Fu Master Sifu Kurtis Fujita. The comic combines supernatural mystery, Kung Fu, Chinese folklore, and the Asian American experience. The first two issues of the martial arts comic are open for backing on Kickstarter.

The comic stars Kit Kitano as he embarks on a journey to learn the truth of the Shadow Ghost legend. He travels to Chinatown and starts studying Kung Fu under the tutelage of reclusive Sifu Sung. “Kit will discover the true essence of Kung Fu and, through a twist of fate, become part of the legend himself,” per the press release.

Fujita drew on Chinese folklore, Asian American culture, and over 30 years of Kung Fu experience to produce the supernatural mystery in the streets of Chinatown. He has been working as an artist and storyteller in comics, animation, video games, and film with credits in properties like The Lord of the Rings and Spider-Man. He implements his martial arts experience to write, pencil, ink, color, and letter Shadow Ghost.

“Shadow Ghost brings authentic Kung Fu to the comic page with a level of detail rarely seen in Martial Arts comics. Unlike the abbreviated, snapshot-style action often seen in comics, Shadow Ghost presents its fights as continuous choreography, with each movement leading naturally into the next—much like watching a carefully choreographed Kung Fu film,” per the press release.

Shadow Ghost #1 is finished, and issue 2 is in the coloring process, followed by lettering.

Collectors can purchase the digital versions of the first two issues for $15. The single issues are $20 each and there are special covers for $30 to $45. Special editions of the first two issues are $75, and collectors can also get all five artist editions for $100.

The Kickstarter campaign runs until November 5, 2026.
