Second Halloween Trailer Premieres Online
It’s been 40 years – yes 40 – since Michael Myers went on his killing spree in Haddonfield in John Carpenter’s Halloween. Now, he’s back for another night of trick ‘r treating, seen in the new trailer for Halloween 2018.
Michael Myers has haunted Laurie Strode for most of her life. The trailer’s opening voiceover states that Michael killed three people on Halloween in ’78 and has since been institutionalized, which continues cementing that the movie only follows the first Halloween. As Michael stalks the neighborhood we hear Laurie say that she’s prayed that he’d escape so she could kill him. Laurie has clearly been preparing for this moment and knows that she needs to protect her family while trying to stop the boogeyman.
Based on the trailer, it looks like director David Gordon Green (Eastbound & Down) has made a movie that follows the original stylistically with some modern flair. Michael appears to be just as intimidating and imposing as he was originally with the additions of some frightening creativity.
The trailer also has some nice homages to the earlier movies, including kids running into Michael, shots from his point of view, Michael taking a knife from a woman who was making a sandwich, billowing white sheets on a clothesline, and kids wearing Silver Shamrock-like masks.
The movie’s teaser poster was also released this week, featuring extreme closeups of Laurie in profile with Michael looking forward. While the image is simplistic, it shows the wrinkles on Laurie’s face and weathered creases on Michael’s mask, illustrating how long the journey has been to get to this night.
The 2018 Halloween will be released in theaters on October 19. Jamie Lee Curtis and Nick Castle return as Laurie Strode and Michael Myers, adding in Judy Greer, Virginia Gardner, Will Patton, and Toby Huss.
