Scooby-Doo and his teenage pals Shaggy, Velma, Daphne, and Fred are a team of investigators who dig into supernatural mysteries. The media franchise began in 1969 with the animated series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! showing the group exploring spooky locales and producing kid-friendly thrills before revealing that regular humans are behind the activity. The original show ran until 1976, followed by numerous TV shows, films (animated and live-action), books, games, merchandise, and comic books.

Scooby and the gang made the transition into comics via Gold Keys’ Scooby Doo, Where Are You? that began in 1970, then Scooby Doo… Mystery Comics in ’73. Early issues adapted episodes from the TV show, featuring art by Warren Tufts, Jack Manning, and Phil DeLara, then original stories followed, which were written by Mark Evanier and illustrated by Dan Spiegle.

Charlton’s 11-issue Scooby Doo, Where Are You? book came out in ’75, drawn by Bill Williams. Marvel’s nine-issue Scooby-Doo comic was written by Evanier and drawn by Spiegel, running from ’77 to ’79. That was followed by Harvey’s two limited series and giant size books featuring reprints of the Charlton comics. Then Archie’s 21-issue Scooby Doo series began in ’95, introducing Scrappy-Doo to comics with Spiegel and Evanier contributing to a few books in the series.

DC secured the license for Scooby-Doo comics in the late 1990s, and published the 159-issue Scooby-Doo series from 1997 to 2010. Their next ongoing series, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? began in 2010 and ran for 132 issues through 2025.

A few years after the second ongoing series began, DC started publishing Scooby-Doo Team-Up pairing the investigators with Batman and Robin, the Teen Titans, Wonder Woman, Superman, and other licensed characters like the Flintstones and Jonny Quest. That series began in 2014 and ran for 50 issues through 2019.

Their Scooby Apocalypse reinvented the characters and put them in a post-apocalyptic world where they faced monsters and tried to reverse the apocalypse and return the world to what it once was. Written by Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis, the 36-issue series ran from 2016 to 2019.

DC has published three Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries limited series with each running for 12 issues, starting in 2021, then 2022, and the latest was in 2024. They have also released several one-shots like Scooby-Doo Spooky Spectacular 2000, Scooby-Doo Super Scarefest, Scooby-Doo! 50th Anniversary Giant, and the Scooby-Doo! Presented by Burger King promotional comic.
