Schoenhut in Hake’s Sales List!
In the midst of the madness at Hake’s Americana during auction closing week, they’ve still managed to muster up a little something for the sales list! For your viewing delight they’ve put up a little mixture of items falling into the categories of Disney, dolls, buttons, china, rings, pendants, badges, premium tabs, stick pins, charms, clothing, puzzles, kits, and much more! In this group of wonderful items, two of the highlights consist of the Barney Google and Spark Plug jointed wood dolls along with the Maggie and Jiggs Bringing Up Father character dolls both produced by Schoenhut.
In 1872, Albert Schoenhut moved from Germany to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and began producing toy pianos. However, he expanded his toy conceptions to other toys like wooden dolls not too long after. He is also responsible for one of the most famous American toys in history, the Humpty Dumpty Circus. By 1904 Schoenhut was a name in the toy industry creating wooden characters for the circus including over 45 different wooden pieces. These Schoenhut pieces are a great part of American History and show the drastic change in favored toys from the early 1900s to today’s toys.
