Salvador Dali Watercolor to be Offered by Heritage

artist. That is because he made himself so much more than just a man with the
talent to paint and draw. He was bigger than life and he knew it. From the
surrealistic nature of his art to the surrealistic nature of his own appearance,
he made his entire life a work of art in its own right. This lifestyle choice
can sometimes obscure the tremendous talent that he possessed.
What is
amazing is that even with his extravagant lifestyle, he still created an
incredibly impressive body of work. Collectors value his original art highly and
pieces by him seldom come on the market. That is why this listing by Heritage is
so significant.
Lucas Rigby, Consignment Director for HGA, told Scoop
that “Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dalí I Domenech was born in Figueres,
Spain in 1904. In 1926, soon after his first one-man show in Paris, Dali joined
the surrealist movement, and became one of their leading proponents. Persistence
of Memory, with its famous melting watches, is from this period. It didn’t take
long, however, for the apolitical artist to clash with the more political
factions of the movement during World War II, resulting in his ‘expulsion’ from
the group. This led Dali to enter his second, more classical period, in which he
focused more on themes of science and religion in his work.”
The auction
is scheduled to take place in Dallas on May 11, 2005. It will be offered as part
of the upcoming Heritage Fine Arts Auction. For complete details on this
